The province of Isabela is preparing for the possible impact of #NandoPH, which is expected to intensify into a typhoon by Saturday.
In a pre-disaster risk assessment on Friday at the Isabela Emergency Operations Center, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Atty. Constante A. Foronda Jr. reported that the province is under Blue Alert status.
He explained that this is a precautionary measure as the tropical storm may strengthen, with DART-831 personnel placed on standby.
Worst-case scenario
Chief Meteorologist Ramil Tuppil of DOST-PAGASA Echague warned that the storm could still develop into a super typhoon. He said the system is currently tracking toward extreme Northern Luzon, similar to the path of Typhoon Marce.
Foronda, meanwhile, called on the PDRRM Council to “prepare for the worst-case scenario.”
Tuppil also noted that the movement of high-pressure systems over mainland China could influence the cyclone’s path.
“If it shifts southeastward, there is a possibility that Nando’s track may move further south,” he explained.
Engr. Calvin Rabiles of NIA-MARIIS reported that water elevation in the province is slightly rising, now at 183.72 meters above sea level (masl). This is still below the normal level of 190 masl but remains within safe limits to accommodate additional water from the approaching storm.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) assured that the province has a stockpile of 1,480 food packs for augmentation to local government units.
Foronda, on behalf of Governor Rodito T. Albano, also directed the PSWDO to ensure that evacuation centers are ready should evacuees need shelter. – Isabela PIO
